FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: while supervisory code runs on the central processing unit, the actual graphics work items are run directly on the graphics hardware and the supervisory code is structured as a graphics virtual machine monitor. Application compatibility is retained using virtual machine monitor technology to run a first operating system such as an original operating system version, simultaneously with a second operating system, such as a new operating system version, in separate virtual machines. Virtual machine monitor technology applied to host processors is extended to graphics processors. The method provides a user with outward uniform impression while running multiple applications in different virtual machines.
EFFECT: high efficiency owing to provision for hardware access to graphic operations accelerators.
