SUBSTANCE: invention relates to systems for biological treatment of domestic waste water with active sludge in suspended state. Disclosed vertical and zonal method of purifying waste water and device for realising said method are based on vertical and circular movement of liquid undergoing purification from a zone with high content of oxygen to a zone with low content of oxygen, thus activating various biochemical processes which require different level of availability of oxygen. The device and its method of operation save power and the device is reliable and easy to manufacture and service.
EFFECT: invention enables efficient operation in any situation with domestic waste water of non-standard composition.
