FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of operation of a traffic light having red, yellow and green light-emitting modules involves switching the modules as warning modules in a sequence defined by signals of the traffic light controller. When the green and yellow modules are switched on, the time remaining until the green module switches off is displayed on the yellow module. When the red and yellow modules are switched on, the time remaining until the red module switches off is displayed on the yellow module. Time is displayed with given discreteness. Display digits correspond to the colour of the switched on green or red module. Brightness of the modules is varied by varying power current depending on overall luminance of the place where the traffic light is installed. The modules are based on light-emitting diodes. Time is displayed in reverse order, starting from nine seconds. Variation of power current depending on overall luminance of the place where the traffic light is installed is carried out using a photoelectric relay.
EFFECT: shorter time for passage of vehicles through an intersection with simple design of the traffic light.
