FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: procedure consists in supply of natural gas into under roof space via openings in roof or upper part of furnace during whole melting. Products of not complete gas burning are after-burned by means of introduction of oxygen into a shaft of a charge heater through opening in side walls of the shaft. The arc steel melting furnace consists of the shaft charge heater installed over the roof. In the roof of the furnace there are made openings for inlet of gas; the openings are arranged uniformly along semi-circumference opposite to the shaft heater. Openings for introduction of oxygen positioned at distance from 0.3 to 0.7 of shaft height are made in side walls of the shaft of the charge heater.
EFFECT: reduced specific expenditures of power due to reduced consumption of natural gas and increased heat content of charge heated with furnace gases and due to more complete utilisation of furnace gases heat.
