FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an insulating coating suspension used in thermal processing of irregularly shaped articles made from stainless steel and nickel alloys which contains a liquid dispersion medium and a solid dispersed phase. The liquid dispersion medium used is a solution of glycerin in ethyl alcohol, and the solid dispersed phase used is aluminium oxide powder with the following ratio of components, pts. wt: glycerin 1, ethyl alcohol 50, aluminium oxide 10. The invention also relates to a method for application of said insulating coating suspension by immersing an article into a container with said suspension. The immersed article is held in the container with the suspension for 5-10 seconds and dried in a temperature-controlled cabinet at 150 - 180°C for 60 minutes. While holding the article, the suspension is constantly stirred using an activator located at the bottom of the container. The quality of mixing and consistency of the suspension is periodically evaluated from the colour of ethanol using a test tube containing the suspension which is shaken before application.
