FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: illumination system has a first spiral light-transmitting fibre which is doped with a first wavelength-converting material, a light-emitting diode (LED) having a light-emitting area which emits light of a first colour, and a device for controlling compression of the said first spiral fibre so as to control the size of the open area between windings of the said first spiral fibre thereby changing the percentage ratio of light of the first colour to light of a second colour emitted by the illumination system. The LED is placed coaxially with the said first spiral fibre so that a certain portion of light emitted by the LED passes through the open area between windings of the first spiral fibre, while some other portion is absorbed by the first spiral fibre and converted to light of the second colour.
EFFECT: possibility of controlling colour of the resultant light the system, reduced migration of dyes into the fibre.
