FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: illumination device has an active layer, for example a blue LED, covered with a first luminescent ceramic converter layer and partially covered with a second luminescent ceramic converter layer. The first and second converter layers convert primary photons (λp) emitted by the active layer into photons of different, longer wavelengths (λ1, λ2). The colour point of the illumination device can be adjusted by adjusting the relative size of the second converter layer.
EFFECT: invention provides an alternative design of an illumination device with an output spectrum which be adjusted by simple and well reproducible means, and white output light with colour temperature lower than 5000 K can be obtained.
