FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: invention serves for use in power supply overhead lines for automatic isolation of damaged overhead nonlinear excess voltage limiter from the circuit. Isolator consists of two electrodes with air spark gap and resistor the end sections of which are electrically connected to one and another electrode correspondingly. Each electrode represents rod-shaped part with hollow end section. Hollow end sections of the electrodes face each other. The size of hollow end sections and their relative position are chosen in such a way that hollow end section of one electrode is inserted into the hollow end section of the other electrode with making an end play between them for making air spark gap. The end sections of inner and outer electrodes are isolated from each other. The cavity in the inner electrode end section forms a free space where there located is a cartridge with a substance that generates gas when heated. Resistor is performed in a form of conducting massive part with through axial hole where there located are hollow end sections of the electrodes with the gap between resistor inner surface and electrode outer surface.

EFFECT: extension of isolator application range.
