FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: procedure consists in charging iron ore raw material and coke into furnace, in heating them and in melting with electric arc. As iron ore raw material there is used waste open-hearth slag with contents of iron up to 36 %, manganese up to 9 % and metals of ferroalloys. Upon reduction of iron and manganese melt is treated with fluorides and chlorides of alkali or alkaline-earth metals enclosed into metallic capsules, and iron and refining slag are tapped.
EFFECT: upgraded quality of iron and its reduced cost.
