FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to water-swellable compositions, as well as to preparation and use thereof. The water-swellable composition contains: (a) 5-70 wt % water-swellable material which is hydrophilic polymer microparticles, (b) 30-95 wt % non-water-swellable thermoplastic polymer or elastomeric material. The hydrophilic polymer microparticles have volume-average diametre not greater than 2 mcm. The composition can be used to produce sealants. The water-swellable composition is prepared by mixing (a) and (b).
EFFECT: invention enables to prepare a composition with improved swelling power and improved retention of water-swellable polymer particles.
