FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention may be used for producing butt joints of aluminium alloys. Chamfer in the form of isosceles right triangle with legs aligned in billet face and reverse sides is made on edges of billets to be welded together. Magnitude of leg K is set by relation K=(0.15-0.40)h, where h is billet thickness. Edges are clamped on solid pad made from material with low hear conductivity. Welding is made by rotary tool made up of shoulder and rod. Rod is fitted into billet material in the joint area, while shoulder is brought in contact with biller surface. Tool is shifted along the butt of welded edges at welding rate. Note here that tool rod working end face works deeper to the level of chamfer edges.
EFFECT: higher strength of joint due to elimination of welding defects.
