SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to pediatrics. Spectral indices of heart rate variability are determined. Vegetative tone is estimated by spectrogram indices, containing total spectrum power, very low spectrum waves, low spectrum waves and high spectrum waves with further determination of spectral index of variability in (conv. units): where VLF are very low spectrum waves, ms2; LF are low spectrum waves, ms2; HF are high spectrum waves, ms2; TP is total spectrum power, ms2. Standard value for 5 year old children constitutes SIV=769.5±33.86 conv. units, and for 1 month old children SIV=595.5±26.21 conv. units.
EFFECT: method makes it possible to increase self-descriptiveness of estimation of heart rate variability in small children, which is achieved due to application of calculated spectral variability index.
