FIELD: physics; navigation.

SUBSTANCE: invention allows for determining coordinates of an object in characteristic points of a motion path or on an area. The method of determining coordinates of an object involves placing sensors for measuring disturbances in the air in measuring points with known coordinates. The sensors are placed in not less than four measuring points. The sensors detect a signal from the object, determine time instants ti, which correspond to the signal reaching each sensor and time intervals Δti, which correspond to delay of signal propagation relative one of the sensors which is selected as a reference sensor. Distances Rzi, traversed by the signal from the object in predefined time intervals Δti, are determined taking into account data on undisturbed state of the air. Using distances RZi and coordinates of measuring points, the coordinates of the object are found as follows. In the search area, points Sk are given, for which distances RSki to each sensor are determined. Rzi and RSki are determined taking into account data on the undisturbed state of the air. Coordinates of a point Sk, for which the expression Σ(RSkj-(Rk+Rzi))2 assumes the least value are taken as the coordinates of the object. In the expression RSki - distance from the ith sensor to a certain point Sk in the search area, i=1-N; N≥4; Rk - distance from the reference sensor to point Sk; Rzi - distance traversed by the signal from the object beyond the time interval Δti.

EFFECT: increased accuracy of determining coordinates of an object.
