FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: in the computer-realised method of indexing contents of a file container, elements in the file container are accessed. For each element in the file container, it is determined whether the element is a link to the file for the target file which acts as filler or indicates that target file. If the element is a link to the file, it is determined whether the target file of the link to the file is in the indexation volume, where if the target file of the link to the file can be currently indexed, then the target file is in the indexation volume. In response to determination that the target file is in the indexation volume, external properties of the link to the file is indexed, and in response to determination that the target file is outside the indexation volume, internal and external properties and content of the target file are indexed.
EFFECT: intelligent indexation of contents of a file container, which enables to avoid duplication, daunting or incomplete search results.
