FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of determining content of pyrolysate in tobacco material involves crushing, sieving and selecting fractions of the material. The selected fraction of material is pre-conditioned to achieve 11-13% moisture of the crushed tobacco. A sample with constant weight of 500 mg is then collected and placed on the grid of a quartz pipe of a detachable tube furnace. The sample is burnt in the furnace at temperature 550-560°C, while constantly feeding air at a rate of 280-290 ml/min for 10 min. Pyrolysate is collected on a pre-weighed glass fibre filter. The filter, on which pyrolysate is collected, is dried in a drying cabinet at temperature 35°C for 10 minutes, and then weighed. Content of pyrolysate is determined from the amount of pyrolysis products per gram of the burnt tobacco material, which is determined using the formula: P=(M1-M2)* 1000/0.5, where P is pyrolysate, mg/g; M1 is mass of the filter before analysis, g; M2 is mass of the filter with pyrolysate after drying, g; 1000 is conversion of grams to milligrams; 0.5 is mass of the sample of tobacco material, g.
EFFECT: use of the disclosed method enables sampling tobacco material and making a cigarette product with given content of tar in cigarette smoke.
