FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: procedure consists in supply of mixture (4) into furnace (3). Mixture contains at least metal oxide and carbon, also, metal oxide under present slag is reduced by means of carbon. Escaping at reduction gases form bubbles in slag, thus foaming it. To produce optimally foamed slag, supply of mixture (4) into furnace (3) should ensure height (h) or interval of height (h) of a layer of foamed slag, established and maintained at a desired level. For this purpose mixture (4) is supplied onto circular surface between electrodes (6) and wall (5) by means of supplying devices (7).

EFFECT: protection of lining from radiation of electric arc and increased power supply into bath of melt metal.
