FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: formed particles, such as pellets or briquettes, are added into slag. Components of particles react with metal oxides in slag and reduce them. Also, pellets or briquettes charged into the electric-arc furnace consist of certain mixture of iron carrier as ballast material, of carbon or carbon and silicon as reducer and of binding. Under a layer of slag pellets or briquettes chemically react with oxides of metal in slag, particularly, with present chromium oxide and reduce it, while created reaction gases facilitate slag foaming. Ballast material mainly consists of elements producing stainless steel - iron and chromium. Low alloyed, fine crumbled scrap of density approximately 7 t/m3 is used as iron carrier in ballast material.

EFFECT: reducing slag at minimisation of conventionally high loss of valuable components.
