FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing monoolefin(s) from starting material A which contains ethanol and propanol, in which ethanol and propanol are dehydrated to corresponding olefins with the same number of carbon atoms, characterised by the following steps: 1) reaction of the starting material A is carried out in a vapour-phase dehydration reactor, in which ethanol and propanol are converted to a stream B of products containing ethylene, propylene, ethers, water and unconverted alcohols, 2) said stream B of products is cooled, 3) said cooled stream B of products is divided in a separation apparatus to obtain a first stream C, containing ethylene, propylene and ethers, and a second stream D of products, containing water, ethers and unconverted alcohols, 4) said stream D of products is fed into a dehydration column in which a stream of water F is extracted from the stream E of ethers and unconverted alcohols, 5) said stream E is returned to the dehydration reactor at step 1, 6) said stream C of products is cooled, 7) said cooled stream C of products is fed into a purification apparatus in which a stream G of ethers is extracted from a stream H of ethylene and propylene. The invention also relates to a method of converting hydrocarbon to olefins, using the method given above.

EFFECT: use of the present invention enables to lower expenses on separating by-products.
