FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing alkene from oxygenate, involving reaction of a stream of initial reagents, containing at least one oxygenate reagent and water, with catalyst of heteropolyacid on a substrate at temperature not lower than 170 °C. Method is initiated by a start-up procedure, including following steps: (i) heating of heteropolyacid catalyst on a substrate to temperature not lower than 220 °C; (ii) maintaining heat treated heteropolyacid catalyst on substrate obtained at step (i), at temperature not lower than 220 °C, for a time sufficient for removal of bound water from heteropolyacid catalyst - component of heteropolyacid on a substrate; (iii) at maintenance of heteropolyacid catalyst on a substrate obtained at step (ii), at temperature not lower than 220 °C, reaction of heteropolyacid catalyst on a substrate with a stream of initial reagents, at temperature not lower than 220 °C.
EFFECT: technical result is increased selectivity of alkene, reduced amount of alkane in obtained product.
