FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method is based on using an antenna to emit and receive signals reflected by the Earth's surface while moving the antenna beam in a given sector of angles on the azimuth, synthesising the antenna aperture and generating a radar image of the Earth's surface. The method is realised while changing the heading of aircraft from an initial value Φ0 while observing the condition \Φcur-φcur\≥φ, where Φcur is the current value of the heading of the aircraft and the antenna beam, respectively, φ is the minimum value of deviation of the antenna beam from the heading of the aircraft necessary for synthesising the antenna aperture. When the angular position of the antenna beam reaches a value ≥Φ0, for example equal to Φ0+φ, that value is instantly changed over in the azimuthal plane to the other boundary of the given sector, after which the antenna beam continues to move on the azimuth in the opposite direction with change of heading of the aircraft to the initial value Φ0 while observing the condition \Φcur-φcur\≥φ.
EFFECT: high azimuth resolution during ground mapping in a give sector of angles, including on the heading of the aircraft, moving the antenna beam from the boundary of the given sector of angles on the azimuth.
