SUBSTANCE: method of mapping the earth's surface using on-board radar is based on emitting and receiving with an antenna signals reflected from the earth's surface while moving the antenna beam in a given angular sector on the azimuth, synthesizing the antenna aperture and forming a still frame radar image of the earth's surface, wherein movement of the antenna beam from the boundary of the given angular sector on the azimuth is carried out when the heading of the aircraft changes, and the boundary from which formation of each next frame begins is changed to the opposite. The method can be implemented by a radar station consisting of an on-board computer, a beam control unit, an antenna, a transmitter, a receiver, a unit for forming a radar image of the earth's surface and a display.

EFFECT: stabilising the position of the mapping area on the aircraft heading.
