FIELD: transport.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to safety on railways and may be used for preventing collision between trains and obstacles on track. Proposed method consists in irradiating track whereon locomotive moves by electromagnetic power source located at locomotive and receiving electromagnetic power flow reflected from obstacle by receiver to determine obstacle on track from parameters of said reflected flow. Engineman or automatic system initiates emergent braking. Electromagnetic radiation is generated by periodic generation of voltage pulses between track rails. Voltage pulse is applied ahead of first wheel pair or any other structural element of locomotive that provides for electrical connection between rails.
EFFECT: higher traffic safety.
