FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: direct current pulses are excited in the medium whose parameters are given based on conductivity of the section and formation depth. Simultaneously, electric field on pairs of receiving electrodes is measured based on spatial averaging of the double layer potential arising at the electrode-water boundary during the pulses and time in between the pulses. Geometric parameters of the medium are determined and geoelectric sections are constructed. The device consists of a unit for formation of an exciting field with a switch which generates current pulses on radiating electrodes. The measurement unit includes a receiving multi-electrode cable line with receiving electrodes. Each of the receiving electrodes is a sectional electrode. The total length of all sections of the receiving electrode is not more than 5% of the inter-electrode distance. Elements of the sectional electrode are electrically connected to each other with summation of EMF arising therein. The input/output from the receiving multi-electrode cable line takes place at one point of the sectional electrode.
EFFECT: high accuracy of results owing to reduced effect of noise during movement of the vessel.
