FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: vacuum chamber of a plasma-arc reactor 1 is filled with hydrocarbon gas. An electric arc is generated by touching graphite electrodes 3 and 4. High-temperature pyrolysis is performed. Hydrocarbon gas is continuously fed into the reactor chamber 1. Carbon nanostructures grow on a silicon plate 2. The silicon plate 2 has the shape of a circular disc in which catalyst particles are deposited. The hydrogen produced comes out through a palladium filter 5 and pumped into a reservoir 7 by a compressor pump 6.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain single- and multilayer carbon nanotubes without impurities of other modifications of carbon and hydrogen.
