FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to 6,7-diphenyl-2,3-dicyanonaphthalene of formula , which can be used as starting material during synthesis of novel binuclear phthalocyanines, as well as to production method thereof. The method involves bromation of 4,5-dibromo-o-xylene with molecular bromine on light while boiling to obtain 4,5-bis(dibromomethyl)-1,2-dibromobenzene, on which sodium iodide and fumarodinitrile acts to form 6,7-dibromo-2,3-naphthalodinitrile. The latter is mixed with phenylboronic acid in the presence of tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium.
