SUBSTANCE: when data flow exceeds a traffic control threshold, a traffic control signal is sent a remote device directing the remote device to reduce flow of input data, which enables to avoid packet loss due to speed limit in the disclosed device. By controlling flow of output data by marking the service stream, flow can be controlled for the Ethernet level 2 frame port pause and flow can be controlled for a specific service at Ethernet level 3 and malfunction of the service due to overflow of the output queue can be prevented. The invention can also guarantee uninterrupted flow of data of packet services, enables to determine throughput needed for the service, and the corresponding alerting, and meets flow control requirements for the specific service when the Ethernet service is transported in an MSTP transmission device.
