SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a protective element for counterfeit-proof papers, valuable documents and similar items. The protective coating comprises a substrate with a non-transparent metal coating applied on it. The metal coating comprises the first non-transparent metal coating, which has optical density of at least 0.5, and the second non-transparent metal layer made of the other metal and arranged above the first metal layer, which also has optical density of at least 0.5. At the same time both these metal layers in the visible part of spectrum have substantially same colour background and significantly differ from each other relative to their chemical and/or mechanical resistance.
EFFECT: protective element has high counterfeit protection and extended service life.
