SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in exploring materials which are stable in strong acid solutions of complex composition with low pH and high ion background, meant for use as sensitive and stable elements of ion-selective electrodes for quantitative determination of concentration of cadmium ions in aqueous solutions. The composition for the membrane of the ion-selective electrode for determining cadmium ions, containing an electrode-active component, plasticticiser, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and a lipophilic additive, contains diamide of 2,2'-dipyridyl-6,6-dicarboxylic acid as the electrode-active component, and the composition has the following ratio of components: electrode-active component 1.0-5.0% (of the weight of the plasticiser and PVC mixture); liophilic additive 0.1-2.5% (of the weight of the plasticiser and PVC mixture), plasticiser+PVC in ratio 2:1 - up to 100% of the total weight of the membrane.

EFFECT: high stability of properties of the membrane, its selectivity to cadmium ions in the presence of certain metal ions, particularly sodium ions and coefficient of selectivity to certain cadmium ions in the presence of alkali metal ions.
