SUBSTANCE: method involves successive treatment of an analysed alcohol extract with a solution of para-nitrobenzaldehyde in dimethyl formamide with aqueous potassium hydroxide solution and benzofuroxane solution in dimethyl formamide to obtain a colorimetric effect from the release of malonic acid dinitrile, which catalyses the reaction of para-nitrobenzaldehyde with benzofuroxane, followed by determination of optical density and quantitative determination of ortho-chlorobenzylidene malonic acid dinitrile using a calibration curve of the difference in optical density of reaction and blank tests versus the logarithm of concentration of ortho-chlorobenzylidene malonic acid dinitrile.
