FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: coal tar pitch undergoes graphitation in the presence of a catalyst at temperature 600-1000°C. The catalyst used is nanoparticles of iron, cobalt, nickel or mixture thereof, and said particles are deposited on nanostructured carbon material. Graphitation is carried out in a reducing medium, i.e. in the medium of exhaust gases, or in an inert medium.
EFFECT: invention enables graphitation of carbon material at low temperatures.
