FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: internal combustion engine 1 comprises mechanism 200 to vary inlet valve timing phases and mechanism 300 to vary lift height by setting control shaft shift. Electronic control module 60 performs coordinated control whereat mechanism 300 is controlled so that position of control shaft 340 defined by pickup 77 is taken to be target position while mechanism 200 to vary inlet valve timing phases is controlled to comply with state of aforesaid mechanism 300. When mismatch occurs between actual position of control shaft 340 and its definite position, coordinated control is prohibited and timing mechanism is controlled to comply with engine load.
EFFECT: control over misses and detonation.
