FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: cutter consists of worm of cylinder shape with chip screw grooves on it forming teeth with cutting edges on their side surfaces. Each tooth on its front surface has root and point backed-off into one dimension. For cutting tooth gears with circular profile in end cross section and for simplification of their control in normal section teeth have elliptic profile. Angle of ascent of screw line of a chip groove is chosen from condition of conversion of elliptic profile of a tooth in normal cross section into front surface with circular profile in form of similar half-circumferences conjugated on base of calculated average diametre of a worm. Circumferences form a point and root with radii equal to half of bigger axis of ellipse in normal cross section, centres of which are positioned on the said average calculated diametre of worm. Also, the said circular profiles formed along front surface of teeth are made corresponding to profile of teeth of processed gear.
EFFECT: maintaining constant dimension of cutting profile at regrinding.
