SUBSTANCE: apparatus for determining annulment determines for a client whether a specific digital certificate issued by a specific certifying authority (CA) has been annulled by that CA. In the service, a processing apparatus receives a request from a client, where the request identifies a specific certificate and the CA which issued the specific certificate. At least one provider participates in the service, where each provider corresponds to the annulment information archive and represents the corresponding archive in the service and is linked to the corresponding archive. Each archive has annulment information from at least one CA. Configuration memory includes an annulment information record which corresponds to each provider participating in the service. Each configuration information record includes an identifier for the provider and each CA such that the archive corresponding to that provider has annulment information from the CA.

EFFECT: high efficiency of collecting and providing a client computer with annulment information from one or more certifying authorities.
