FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: ARQ process provides short bitmaps spanning only a few octets embedded in into the payload of a RLC/MAC block which conveys the relevant ACK/NACK signalling. The major improvement lies in shifting the short bitmap from payload data into the header of the same RLC/MAC block transmitted either in the uplink direction or down link direction. Synchronisation between the transmission and reception frames is required during communication with short bitmaps. Correct retransmission of badly received radio blocks requires knowledge of the fixed delay between the instant of transmitting a radio block and the instant of receiving the short bitmap. The second major improvement lies in allocating the short bitmap to a new zone lying immediately after the header of the RLC/MAC blocks, and encoding it independently of the payload using coding which is more robust against the errors compared to the robustness of the MCS used in the payload data part.
EFFECT: coding short bitmaps together with the header, thus gaining advantage from such coding which is more reliable than the one used for the payload.
