FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves mixing potassium and aluminium oxides in an inert gas atmosphere and melting the mixture. The potassium chloroaluminate melt is then treated with compact aluminium obtained from casting wastes from aluminium production containing 99.95 wt % aluminium metal, with weight ratio of compact aluminium to the obtained salt melt equal to 1:(25-30).
EFFECT: high efficiency of removing adsorbed or chemically bound water in aluminium trichloride when converting other impurities to insoluble state without pretreatment and dehydration of starting components of the raw material.
