FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to disinfection of ballast water of ships by destroying aquatic organisms in the water. The method involves intake of water from an open water body, passing said water through an extended system of pipes of varying diameter in which the differential pressure of water falls to a point lower than atmospheric pressure at the first point of the system owing to increase in the impact pressure of the water at the first point, and direction into the ballast tank 106 of the ship, where gas is fed into the water and the water is passed through electrodes to which electrical energy is transmitted. The system of pipes is divided into zones including: a first conical zone 124, mainly in form of an flattened cone, having an outlet which forms a first hole with a first diameter, as well as an inlet which forms a second hole with a second diameter which is greater than the first diameter; a first reactor zone 136 which is mainly cylindrical having a third diameter which is greater than the first diameter, wherein the first reactor zone 136 is connected to the outlet of the first conical zone 124 via a radially placed connecting pipe 130, 132 such that the diameter of the system of pipes sharply increases immediately after the first hole of the conical zone 124; wherein the size of the first diameter is selected such that cavitation begins to form in the water flowing through the system of pipes.

EFFECT: invention enables fast and efficient disinfection of large volumes of ballast water.
