FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electroplating and specifically to a method of decontaminating flush water and electrolytes containing hexavalent chromium compounds. The method is based on reducing hexavalent chromium compounds with a hydrazine or hydroxyl amine solution. The reaction takes place at pH ranging from acidic to weakly-alkaline without further addition of acid or alkali to change the pH. At the end of the reduction reaction, the chromium hydroxide precipitate is filtered from the solution.
EFFECT: reagent method of decontaminating flush water in non-flow washing baths and electrolytes containing hexavalent chromium compounds without using such chemicals which result in formation of extra wastes which are hard to recycle.
