SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in adaptive systems for packet data transmission using antinoise coding of useful information, working in multi-position differential phase shift keying modes, and, based on operating signals, enables to obtain an estimate of error probability per bit in a communication channel for the current operating mode and for other modes with the number of differential phase shift keying positions different from the current mode. Estimation of the error probability is carried out based on comparing restored phase difference values with phase difference values from a demodulator.

EFFECT: rapid estimation of error probability per bit during communication for all possible operating modes, having the number of positions in the phase plane which is a multiple of the power of two, without additional redundancy in the message in form of test sequences.
