FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to materials containing organic compounds which slow down chemical reactions, and more specifically to methods of preventing ignition and explosion of hydrogen-air mixtures. The method involves adding a hydrocarbon inhibitor directly into hydrogen. For mixtures containing over 35 vol. % hydrogen, the inhibitor used is isobutene (i-C4H8) or propene (C3H6) in amount of 2 and 3 vol. %, respectively.
EFFECT: method provides fire- and explosion safety when preparing, storing and handling hydrogen-air mixtures, the method is easily producible, easy to implement and efficient.
