FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to fire and explosion safety and can be used in production, storage and transportation of hydrogen, in factories associated with formation of hydrogen as the main and/or by-product. The method of preventing ignition, combustion and explosion of hydrogen-air mixtures involves adding an inhibitor to the hydrogen-air mixtures, the inhibitor being a mixture of halohydrocarbons C2F4Br2+CF3Br and/or C2F4Br2+CF3l and/or C2F4Br2+C2F3ClBr2 and/or C2F4Br2+C2F3Cl3. The inhibitor is added in amount ranging from 6 vol. % to 20 vol. % of the volume of the mixture.
EFFECT: high efficiency of preventing ignition, combustion and explosion of hydrogen-air mixtures, low chemical aggressiveness and toxicity, wider temperature range and cheaper process of preventing ignition.
