SUBSTANCE: several possible service providers for a type of transaction can be selected, and a gateway can control not only the time for all-round passage through network(s) to different possible service providers, but also time needed to complete a transaction on an application level and return response. The application is selected on the sending side of the network, and formatting on the application level at the sending side is also performed. The gateway uses a modular code and data and separate copies of the processing code for possible dynamic updating. Rules for selecting an application service can be selectively loaded onto the gateway from a client. Rules for different available application services can be distributed on different gateways.
EFFECT: providing intelligent switching of transactions on an application level, based on content of application level transactions, dynamic context information of the transport medium or dynamic rules for switching transactions.
