FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing 1,2-propane diol, which is used as a component of braking and hydraulic fluids, lubricant materials and antifreeze, cosmetic preparations, in food industry and as solvents for fats, oils, resins and paints. The method involves reaction of glycerine having purity of at least 95 wt % with hydrogen at pressure ranging from 20 to 100 bars (from 2.00×106 to 1.00×107 Pa) and temperature 180-240°C in the presence of a catalyst which contains 20-60 wt % copper oxide, 30-70 wt % zinc oxide and 1-10 wt % manganese oxide in an autoclave.
EFFECT: method enables to obtain an end product with high selectivity and output.
