FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention discloses a light source having one or more elements which emit on the edges, each having an essentially identical or similar radiation spectrum or corresponding radiation/colour spectra, and a certain number of heat-sinks thermally connected to said elements. There are also apparatus for exciting elements which emit on the edges. Output optical apparatus, such as reflectors, lenses, scatterers, collimators, filters and the like can also be included to collect, shift and/or redirect light emitted by the elements which emit on the edges in order to generate the required optical effect. The light source can also have an optional control system with feedback, configured to control output of the light source and adjusting exciting apparatus and/or output optical apparatus to maintain the required or optimum output.
EFFECT: high efficiency of the light source.
