FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of heat insulating materials by melting raw materials in cupola furnaces, and specifically to production of mineral wool used in heat insulation. The method of producing mineral wool involves loading fuel, starting mineral material and a deoxidising additive into a cupola furnace and then melting the mineral material and producing mineral wool. The fuel-deoxidant used is coke obtained from a mixture containing a product with output of volatile substances from 14 to 25% in amount of (5-100) wt %, wherein said product is obtained via slow semicoking of black oil.
EFFECT: cutting the amount of expensive fuel components used, high smelting rate and low fuel consumption.
