FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: indent is made on the analysed surface of the article (specimen) under a static load applied to a diamond indentor for a defined period of time, and the parameter of the obtained indent is measured. A clear indent is formed on the surface of transparent materials using a darkening thin film, having low adhesion to material of the measured surface.
EFFECT: method of measuring micro-hardness of transparent materials with high accuracy in a wide range of static loads from 2 to 200 g with step of 5 g.
