FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method is based on that natural (especially nonpolarised) light is transmitted at an angle from 5 deg to 75 deg between the direction of the light and the perpendicular to the surface of the working optical element made from n layers (n≥1) of manganites lying on a transparent dielectric substrate. The reflected light and light transmitted through the modulator is modulated by an external control magnetic field in the working optical element, having a magnetorefractive effect on magnetotransmission and magnetoreflection.
EFFECT: method broadens functional capabilities of modulating infrared radiation owing to modulation of light both reflected from and transmitted through the working optical element.
