SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optics, namely to methods of controlling optical radiation by applying an external magnetic field. Method of light modulation includes use of subwave hybrid two-dimensional array of MI-resonance nanostructures from weakly absorbing material (k in range 0.00001…0.01) with high refraction index (n in range of 2...5), having magnetic activity and/or placed in magnetic environment (|g| in range of 0...5), illumination of the obtained meta-surface by linearly polarized electromagnetic radiation under the normal and applying a magnetic field (|H| in range of 0.01...0.5 T) in the geometry of the magneto-optical Faraday effect.

EFFECT: providing modulation of polarization of transmitted and reflected light using a submicron CMOS-compatible magnetophoton meta-surface using an applied external magnetic field.
