SUBSTANCE: invention may be used for butt welding of equal- or different-thickness flat elements in production of, for example, automotive chassis. Sheet elements 17 are placed on first and second tables 1A and 1B arranged to displace relative to each other. Sheet elements 17 are brought in contact with locating elements 16a and 16b arranged ahead of and above opposite edges 1' of said tables 1A and 1B. Extending edges of sheet elements 17 are arranged ahead of opposite edges 1' of tables 1A and 1B. Sheet elements 17 are positioned in transverse direction and locked on tables 1A and 1B. After driving away of aforesaid locating elements, tables 1A and 1B are drive to displace relative to each other unless extending edges of sheet elements 17 stay in contact and welded seal X is formed.
EFFECT: higher welding efficiency.
