FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: fibre fusion delimitre has optical fibre having a core and cladding with longitudinal channels. The refraction index of the core of the optical fibre is greater than that of a section of the cladding other than sections containing channels. If the mode field diameter used at the wavelength of the optical fibre is MFD, and the distance between the centre of the core and point closest to the centre of the core and the channel which is closest to the core is Rmin, then the value 2xRmin/MFD is not less than 1.2 and not greater than 2.1. If the width in the diametrical direction of region where there are channels in the cladding is W, then W/MFD is not less than 0.3. If the diameter of the cladding of the optical fibre is Dfibre, then W≤0.45xDfibre. Each end of the optical fibre is spliced by fusion with optical fibre having no channels, and loss due to splicing by fusion per point is not greater than 0.50 dB. A section of the surface of the optical fibre is coated with resin coating except the section for splicing by fusion between the optical fibre and the optical fibre having not channels, and its periphery. The section for splicing by fusion and its periphery are coated with non-inflammable protective coating.

EFFECT: reduced loss when splicing a fusion delimiter with single-mode fibre and high throughput and output power of the laser.
