SUBSTANCE: invention may be used in various enterprises, in particular, garment industry in which production cycle there is a need to cut out clothes into parts of specified sizes, which are either blank or finished parts, hereinafter referred to as segments of small length, from the starting materials in rolls, tapes, strips, rectangular sheets, rods, etc., hereinafter referred to as segments of large length. Segment (segments) of large length are marked and cut to the segments of short length so that the sum of the lengths of small segments either coincided with the segment of the large length, or have a minimum remaining residue. At the same time as the estimated amount of numbers of the lengths of small segments that constitute the combinations an integer is taken equal or close greater to square root of the total number of segments of small length, determining thereby the order of the magic square. In the event of incongruence of specified number of segments of small length and the estimated number of segments, the missing part to the estimated amount is added with the "zero" segments of small length. In presence of "zero" segments of small length, the numbers are assigned to them from one of the rows/columns of the magic square. Sequence of numbers of segments of small length is formed in ascending order of their lengths, taking into account the "zero" segments of small length in accordance with the relevant numbers shown in the rows/columns of the magic square. On the segments of large length the segments of short length are marked/placed similar to numbers shown in the rows/columns of the magic square.
